Poor Baby Girl!

Two weeks ago, Austin and I were sitting on the couch talking about Emily's fishing tournament while the girls played in our room. We were just getting ready to start our evening routine of dinner, baths, pajamas, when Madi came walking out of our room with a bottle of my lotion. She handed it to me and said "Mommy, it's all red." I looked and saw bright red blood on the bottom of the bottle. Austin and I jumped up and Madi said "Emmy do it. Lots and lots of red on Mommy's floor." I don't even remember getting to the bedroom--we just were, in a flash!

Emily had gotten into my bathroom cabinet, which just has makeup, lotion, and hair ties in it, and dumped the makeup basket on the floor. There was blood on the carpet and her left hand was covered in blood. I rushed her in to the other bathroom while Austin tried to figure out what she hurt herself on. The only sharp thing we could find was a little handheld pencil sharpener for my eyeliner, so we think that was the culprit! I couldn't tell where she was bleeding from, until I stuck her hand under the running water, then I could see it coming from a wide split on her ring finger tip. She didn't seem to be bothered whatsoever, until I put pressure on it with a washcloth and held her arm above her head. She was pretty mad then and it was really hard to hold her. She's getting so big and strong!

It definitely looked like it needed glued/stitched closed by a doctor, so Austin held pressure on her finger while I rushed Madi next door and practically threw her at Ken, shouting instructions as I ran back home to get Emily! It was a rough ride to the pediatric urgent care, and of course we hit every red light, but fortunately it's right there in Oviedo. By this time, I'd been holding her arm above her head and applying pressure for about 30 minutes. My arm was turning purple and tingling, so I'm sure hers was asleep too! The doctor took us right back. The bleeding had slowed quite a bit, but as soon as she wiped it with the Betadine wipe, it started right back up again. She said Emily didn't just cut it, she actually took a little chunk out. :( It took two layers of Dermabond adhesive, plus gauze and a pink wrap to protect it all, but we finally got it done. Emily was not happy, poor thing, and Austin and I left the office with a few battle scars. ;) Here she is when she finally calmed down but her sweet little face is still all puffy from crying.

I'm happy to report that her finger healed very well! The glue only lasted a day or so, because she kept blowing bubbles on the pink wrap. We put some of the New Skin liquid bandage we have on it every morning and night, and covered with a band aid, which she left alone. It looks great now, and I don't think she's even going to have a scar! I'm happy it healed so quickly, and that it wasn't more serious. Now not only are there locks on the kitchen cabinets and drawers, but now on our bathroom cabinets too. Oh, and our closet doors, because she has learned how to open those too, the little stinker. :)
