Our French doors have needed replaced for years now. There is a lot of water damage to the door jam and when it rains really hard and comes down sideways, it leaks right through the door. We finally decided it couldn't be put off anymore and ordered new doors so we could get them in before the rainy season starts. Of course, the irony is that we were hit with tropical storm rain bands the entire weekend Austin was installing it. Between the horrible rain, the strong wind gusts, and the drill that broke in half, he had a few colorful words to share. ;)
I didn't take a picture of the doors before he took them out, but there wasn't much to see really. Once he took them out, you could really see all of the water damaged wood.
Several sections of the wood was disintegrating in his hands, and he was able to actually poke his finger right into the bottom section of the door.
He got all the junky stuff out and replaced it all before he put in the new doors. At first glance, they don't look much different than our old doors, but they are! These are double paned with the grilles between the glass, which makes cleaning them so much better, and the grilles won't yellow and crack like the old ones did. Plus, these are real French doors where both of them can open completely...on our old doors, only one could open.
We've already seen a difference in the temperature in the dining room when the sun is setting and shining through the glass, and we haven't even hung the curtains back up yet!
