Austin has been toying with the idea of getting his first tattoo for as long as I can remember, several years now. He's been seriously considering it for the last 2 years, but still wasn't sure what he wanted permanently inked on his arm. I absolutely refused to "let" him get a redfish or a fishing lure! He finally decided he wanted the girls' newborn footprints (exact size) with their names written in my handwriting. Eight months later (it took that long to get over the "fear of needles" thing!) he finally sat in a chair at Trinity Tattoo to have tattoo artist Earl Funk ink his arm! The first several minutes were rough (I was looking around the shop trying to see if any other white people were as white as he was at that moment...they were not), but after a lollipop and Mountain Dew, he was able to power through it.
It took about an hour to complete, and I was anxious to see the finished product, since I had to stand on the other side and couldn't see any of the progress. We both love it! It's very weird for me to see my handwriting on his arm, and I can't get over how well Earl Funk exactly matched the girls' real footprints. It's probably the most painful Father's Day gift Austin's ever gotten, but one that he will be able to look at forever. :)
