Beaufort, South Carolina - Day #3

Sunday morning, our last day in Beaufort, Austin got up super early and went out fishing in the kayak. He wasn't sure if he'd catch anything (he didn't), because the fish up have eating patterns based on the tides. But since the waters seemed perfect for a kayaker, I thought it was good idea for him to bring the kayak anyway. He's so lucky to have me. ;) Obviously, we were back at the hotel sleeping, but Austin was able to get a few pictures with his cell phone.

The girls slept till about 9:30 (they were wiped out!), and then got to take one last bath in the big bathtub. They both loved not having to fight over the space, although I think they'd be happier still if they had room for BOTH of them to lay on their tummies in the tub!

Austin got back around the time the girls were done in the tub, so while we packed up the rest of the hotel room to check out, Madi watched cartoons. She thought it was so cool that the TV in South Carolina also had Sponge Bob. :)

Austin carried most of the luggage (i.e. reusable grocery bags) down to the car and then came back up with a cart for the last of it. He picked up two stowaways too...

The girls were laughing the whole way down to the car, then Madi started pretending they were on a choo choo train...

I know I keep saying it, but we still couldn't get over the water levels changing with the tides. This entire area was completely filled with water just a few hours before. The water disappears (fast--we saw boats just sitting on land, waiting for high tide to come back in), and you can see oyster beds and everything.

While Brittney and Cody were at church, we headed back downtown to the Water Festival for kids day, and to pick up a souvenir shot glass for our collection (Finally! A shot glass for some place that wasn't in Florida!). The rains were starting to come in, and we only had a couple of hours before we wanted to get back on the road, but the girls had a little bit of time to play on the bounce houses!

Family picture while we were shopping on Bay Street...

Madi got her face painted with a ladybug. Between the rain and the bounce houses, it wasn't there for long. :)

At this station, the little kids were supposed to pick up a rubber ducky and exchange it for a sticker. Of course, Emily just wanted to splash in the water. I can't blame her--it was really hot outside! I almost dropped my camera in the water though, because as I was taking pictures, she tried to climb right in, shoes and all! I had to lunge across the pool and grab her, but her shirt was already soaked. The lady running that station just laughed, because apparently that's what all the little one's were trying to do. :)

Madi showing off her ridiculously large Goofy tattoo! And her barely there ladybug.

After some Carolina barbecue with Brittney and Cody at Q on the Bay, it was time to head home. Austin buckled Emily in her car seat and handed her her blue cow. I found another one in the car, and not knowing she already one, tossed it back there to her. She didn't seem to mind. :)

We made one last stop at a shop I spotted the day before...The Chocolate Tree!

It was easy to behave in there, since I just had my chocolate party and I don't think anything can compare to that delicious yumminess. Madi picked out chocolate crayons and rainbow licorice laces, and she picked out a chocolate fish for her Daddy. This was my favorite treat that I saw in there...deviled eggs. Even though I was 99.999% sure they were white chocolate, I still had to pick one up to check because they looked sooo real!

We stopped for gas ($3.05 a gallon!) and a new balloon for Emily, and then we were on the road home. Once again, no one slept or fussed! Emily played with her balloon, and Madi watched movies and read books. Then she got bored and made up her own game:

"My hair messy..."

"My hair all better!"

Home sweet home! Well, almost. Just like on the way there, this was the longest part of the drive. We started to get tired and we were ready to get home. We stopped at a Jacksonville McDonald's for a quick dinner, and then drove the rest of the way home.

We got home around 9:30, and Spike was so excited to see us! Madi remembered that he rarely eats unless we're home with him (weird, I know), so she ran right to his food dish and kept bringing him handfuls of dog food to eat. He happily obliged. :)

It was a great trip and we are so proud of both of our girls for how wonderful they did! Long drives, late nights, hot weather, and no naps, and they (almost) never complained. It went so well, we feel like we could go anywhere now! But I don't think either of us are ready to push our luck just yet. ;)
