Beaufort, South Carolina - Day #1

We spent this weekend in Beaufort, South Carolina, visiting Brittney and Cody. It was the first time Austin and I have left the state of Florida in 15 years, and it was our first major family vacation! We left Friday morning and prepared for the 6 hour car ride with snacks, toys, movies, balloons, etc. The girls did so good! We left the house around 10 am, and got to the hotel in SC around 4 pm. The girls never got whiny or fussy, and I was surprised that Madi didn't even take a nap!

Here's Emily, with her favorite way to sit in the car...one shoe off and one foot in the cup holder.

Madi playing games on my iPhone, somewhere around Jacksonville.

The Georgia state line! It was exciting to be in another state. :) The longest part of the trip was getting out of Florida.

It seemed like no time at all before we were at the South Carolina state line!

Just a little bit more and we were finally in Beaufort, South Carolina.

Brittney and Cody were at the movie theater across the street, so they pulled up to the hotel right as we got out of the van. Madi was so excited to see them!

When I booked the hotel, I just looked for something close to their house. There were no hotels on Lady's Island, so we stayed on the main highway in the city of Beaufort. We were excited to see that even though we were on a main highway, our hotel room overlooked the Albergotti Creek. Austin was anxious to drag the kayak out there ASAP, but he had to wait until Sunday morning. :)

Jumping on the bed, a must in hotel rooms.

Checking herself out in the full length mirror...

We planned our trip to coincide with the 57th annual Beaufort Water Festival, so after unloading the car and eating dinner at Brick's, we walked across the Beaufort River to Waterfront Park for the kickoff of the 10 day festival.

The barge with the fireworks was right there in front of us, so the fireworks seemed like they filled the whole sky!

Part of the grand finale...

Once the fireworks were done, we walked around the park exploring. I would love to see Waterfront Park without the festival, because it looked like it must be a really nice place to visit and relax. Lots of grassy areas, winding walkways, and swinging benches overlooking the river. This shrimp boat docked when the fireworks were done.

By the time we got back to the hotel and got the girls in bed, it was after 11:00. They'd spent the day in the car and had no naps, but they did so good. Here's Princess Emily all snuggled up in her giant bed...

And my sweet little Madi Pie, sleeping on the pull out sofa. They slept till around 7 am. It was a big change from our night in Tampa last year, when Madi was in our bed kicking us, and Emily was up at the crack of dawn!

Day #2 in Beaufort to follow soon!
