Wedding Cake

This weekend I had a wedding cake order from someone who found me through an old middle school friend (who happened to be her maid of honor). We've been in contact about the cake for several months, and it was supposed to look similar to Brittney's wedding cake. But just a few weeks before the wedding, the bride changed her mind and wanted something very different! I have to say, it's very nerve wracking doing wedding cakes as opposed to birthday or shower cakes. I do all of them with the same attention to detail and care, but the wedding cake is a major focal point at a reception. The bride and groom will have pictures of it forever and that's a lot of pressure! Plus, this was the first wedding cake that I was being paid for, so I really felt the need to make it the best that I could.

The bride chose chocolate cake with my homemade peanut butter frosting, and she wanted "as much icing as possible!" :) So each tier was three layers of chocolate cake and three THICK layers of peanut butter frosting! The tiers were covered in vanilla fondant, and decorated with royal icing lilies and tiny flowers. I have to admit, when she said she wanted me to use pillars, I wasn't keen on the idea...you just don't see them much anymore. But I found square clear acrylic ones instead of round white plastic, and then filled them with red glass stones. They turned out really pretty!

I got up early this morning to deliver the cake to Leu Gardens, and the weather was just beautiful. A perfect day for a wedding! Austin said Madi wasn't too happy when she woke up and realized not only was Mommy gone, but the cake was too--and she REALLY wanted the cake. :)

I'm very happy with the way the cake turned out, and the bride was too...she was thoughtful enough to text me during the reception to let me know how happy she was! And the comment she posted on my Facebook said "Most delicious piece of awesome EVER!" I'm honored she trusted me so much with such an important day in her life!
